Low-Fire Salt Sculptures

We did a low-fire salt load about a week ago. Here are pictures of the sculptures I had in the firing. Each turned out so different. I love the energy that comes from the salt and flames!

 

 

Memories

 

Steve offers pictures of a "5 minute challenge" from a class long, long ago in a galaxy far, far away. Brannon's Blue over Kathy's White with cigarette ash glaze. Only 15 years ago, Cindy Howe was torturing beginning pottery students with this task, among many others. We're glad you stuck with it, Steve!

New Stuff

We have class tomorrow but a foot of snow may postpone the next exciting adventure for a week. Meanwhile, here's a picture of Esther's cone 6 creations and one of my latest sculptures.

Back to class after 2 weeks off. Found out the low-fire salt kiln is working and ready for testing in a few weeks...or sooner. Also used a little mica to liven things up on the ferric pieces. It's subtle but we will pump up the volume as the weeks go on.

 

 

It may only be mica but it's gold to us!

We may be on spring break at BiCentennial Art Center in Aurora, CO but "the beat goes on." Steve has sent pictures of his beautiful tea bowls that will lift your spirits and warm your cockles....whatever those are. Let us know if you want any info on glazing. Last Winter Class

The gas kiln was fired this week and Marianne gave us a quick "cut and paste" pitcher to make.
